You are warmly welcome to the School of Sports and Exercise Medicine (SSEM) of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), Ho, Volta Region, Ghana. The mandate of SSEM is to provide higher education in Sports and Exercise Medicine through teaching and research to persons suitably qualified and capable of benefiting from such education. The School is dedicated to community service by supporting and empowering future leaders to promote health, fitness and exercise medicine across Ghana and beyond. The School is dedicated to providing a world-class learning environment that fosters innovation, critical thinking and collaboration with industry as strategic stakeholders. We strive to advance the field of sports and exercise medicine through cutting-edge research and community engagement, addressing the unique health needs of our nation and contributing to the global sports and exercise science community. Our academic programmes are designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills and competencies required to excel in the field of sports and exercise medicine.  

Currently, SSEM runs undergraduate programmes in Sports and Exercise Medical Science and has initiated the process of rolling-out postgraduate programmes in Sports Psychology, Exercise Physiology and Rehabilitation, Sports Nutrition, Coaching Science and Analytics, and Sports Management. The School also runs the Professional Practice Certificate Course which is designed to provide skills and needed competences required for middle level field workers in the Fitness Centres.  The curricula of our programmes are relentlessly updated to meet the contemporary needs of society and to provide skills needed for building a successful and satisfying career. Our graduates are in high demand due to their highly valued skills and ethos as part of clinical training available in the Human Performance Laboratory (HPL) of the School.  

SSEM is endowed with excellent and skilled academic and professional staff who are  renowned experts in their unique fields of specialty, with a passion for teaching, research, and mentorship. The faculty deliver high-quality curricula and also offer support to students in the areas of research, professional practice placement and scholarship.  

We are located in Ho, the capital of the Volta Region, which has a serene and conducive environment with beautiful, diverse culture and easily accessible from Accra, the national capital of Ghana. Our School is uniquely situated in the premises of the University’s main campus at Sokode Lokoe in Ho approximately 2.5 km from the Ho Teaching Hospital, which provides our students with easy access to the hospital facility; patients, medical facilities and equipment with other specialists who are health professionals to facilitate their  learning and training.
